In 2006 Wide Bay Institute of TAFE in Queensland asked all teaching staff how much e-learning they were incorporating into their delivery, and what it would take for them to extend their use of e-learning. The survey unearthed a few surprises.

The survey found that there was more e-learning going on than anyone had suspected. It appeared teachers had been incorporating elements of e-learning - like electronic submission of assignments, email and chat group discussions - without any training or encouragement.

The Institute is now using the findings to inform its strategic planning and a targeted professional development a strategy that offers teachers what they are asking for.
